Hematology and Oncology Research Center, Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, Yazd, Iran
Based on the importance of applied clinical research and its role in promoting health, and in line with the goals of the Fourth Medical Development Plan and the necessity of establishing research centers alongside health systems, the Hematology and Oncology Research Center was established in 2008, with the cooperation of Mohammad Rasoolallah Charity Foundation for Supporting Children with Cancer, and a group of donors at the location of Shahid Sadoughi Hospital. This center received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in early 2013.
In addition to approving and carrying out research projects related to the field of blood and cancer, Hematology and Oncology Research Center launched the Iranian Journal of Pediatric Hematology Oncology in English, which has been indexed in the world’s most prestigious databases, including the Thomson Reuters (ISI) database. This journal has received an impact factor (IF) of 0.4 in 2024.

Objectives:
- Developing and applying human knowledge in the fields of hematology, oncology, and genetics
- Conducting basic epidemiological and clinical research to reform the country's health system to meet the community needs in the prevention and treatment of blood diseases, cancer, and genetics
- Collecting, organizing, classifying, and publishing documents, articles, and evidence related to blood diseases and cancer
- Scientific cooperation with research and educational centers in other countries and international seminars
- Providing a suitable research platform for the target groups
- Reviewing and approving proposed research projects and student research theses
- Organizing educational and research workshops to empower faculty members and students
- Monitoring the proper conduct of research activities
- Providing the latest research and treatment approaches in the field of blood and pediatric cancer through the publication of the specialized journal IJPHO
Research Priorities:
- Evaluation and study of clinical aspects including diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and side effects of treatment in various types of cancer
- Demographic studies including the prevalence, incidence, and survival rate of various types of cancer
- Psychological and social studies related to various types of cancer
- Evaluation and study of clinical aspects including diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of blood diseases such as thalassemia and hemophilia.
- Demographic studies including the prevalence, incidence, and survival rate of patients with various blood disorders
- Psychological and social studies related to various blood diseases
- Fundamental studies using interdisciplinary sciences such as nanotechnology, tissue engineering and protein engineering to prepare and increase the shelf life of various blood products
