Yazd Reproductive Sciences Institute, established in 1989 at Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, is the pioneering center for advanced infertility treatments in Iran and the home of the country’s first IVF baby, born in 1990.
Recognized nationally as a scientific hub and center of excellence, the institute provides cutting-edge services in infertility care, stem cell research, and reproductive genetics. Each year, more than 14,000 couples from across the country and beyond seek treatment here.
With specialized clinics, modern operating rooms, and state-of-the-art laboratories in ART, genetics, and biotechnology, the institute not only delivers world-class patient care but also leads in education, training, and groundbreaking research in reproductive sciences.
The institute’s main building brings together specialized centers for infertility treatment, stem cell research, and recurrent abortion. It is equipped with women’s and urology clinics, genetic and nutrition counseling, psychiatry services, advanced operating rooms for reproductive procedures. State-of-the-art laboratories in ART, andrology, genetics, biotechnology, and hormone analysis further support both patient care and pioneering research.

Founding Chair
Key Activities:
- Monthly publication of the Iranian Journal of Reproductive Medicine, indexed in ISI and PubMed international databases
- Publication of more than 300 scientific articles in domestic journals and over 200 articles in international journals
- Presentation of more than 500 abstracts and posters at national and international congresses
- Authoring and translating more than 15 books on infertility
- Conducting thesis projects for general medicine, specialty, master’s, and doctoral programs in collaboration with other universities
- Carrying out clinical and basic research projects in various fields of reproduction, genetics, and stem cells
- Conducting transgenic research projects in collaboration with Pasteur Institute of Iran
- Establishing a DNA bank for infertile couples in collaboration with Tehran Welfare Sciences University
- Establishing a national cell bank in collaboration with the National Center for Genetic Research
- Organizing a biennial international congress and student festival on reproductive medicine in Yazd
- Holding at least three national workshops and two international workshops annually
- Hosting at least one national congress annually
- Conducting annual laboratory skills courses
- Creating identical twins in a laboratory setting using the embryo-splitting technique
