The official delegation of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences visited the higher education centers of the city of Al-Kut, Wasit, in Iraq.

Following an academic visit of the Iraqi delegation to Yazd and SSU in September 2021, SSU representatives visited the Universities of Al-Kut city from 11 to 15 March, 2022 at the official invitation of the president of Wasit University. The team consisted of Prof. M.B. Owlia, the Director of International Affairs; Prof. A.H. Mehrparvar, Vice-President for Research and Technology; and Dr. M.H Zare, Assistant Vice-President for Clinical Affairs.

The Iranian delegation first visited the holy shrines in the cities of Najaf and Karbala, and then made a visit to different schools of Wasit University including the Schools of Dentistry and Medicine, Azad University of Al-Kut, as well as Al-Zahra and Al-Karamah hospitals in Al-Kut.

Also, a meeting was held at the invitation of intellectuals and cultural veterans of the city of Al-Kut, which was accompanied by a very warm welcome from the hospitable elders of this city.

During this visit two memorandum of understanding were signed between Wasit University and SSU. The two sides agreed to strengthen sustainable scientific, educational and clinical cooperation in near future, to be started by providing specialty and sub-specialty training courses for the Iraqi professors in the fields of emergency medicine, surgery, rehabilitation, rheumatology, and occupational medicine.

It is worth mentioning that the proximity of Al-Kut City to the border of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ilam province, acceptable weather conditions, excellent security, common cultural and religious commonalities, and common views in the field of international relations Thave made remarkable opportunity for further developing relations with the universities in the neighboring country of Iraq.
