We, the community of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences in Yazd, strongly condemn the recent acts of aggression and US-Israeli attacks on academic, research, and humanitarian institutions in Iran. Multiple universities, schools, research centers, health centers and hospitals, and emergency facilities have been targeted, causing serious damage to infrastructure dedicated to health, education, science, and the preservation of human life. Such actions constitute a grave violation of international laws and an assault on the foundations of knowledge, humanity, and ethical responsibility.
Science cannot be silenced by bombs and assassinations. The pursuit of knowledge in Iran is like a deeply rooted tree—resilient and enduring—that grows stronger with every wound, and blossoms anew after every hardship.
Such attacks stem from frustration and hostility toward the remarkable progress of the Iranian people, achieved despite years of sanctions, economic pressure, and extensive media campaigns.
Targeting centers of science and education reflects neither strength nor fury, but failure and humiliation on the military front.
Iran stands as one of the oldest cradles of civilization, having contributed for millennia to the advancement of science, culture, and human knowledge worldwide. The literary masterpieces of Persian poets have inspired and enriched global literature, leaving a lasting legacy admired across cultures.
From the establishment of the ancient Academy of Gondishapur, as one of the earliest centers of higher education and teaching hospitals in the world, to the enduring influence of Iranian scholars such as Avicenna, whose works served as core references in international universities for centuries, Iran’s role in shaping global knowledge is undeniable. Yet today, this rich civilization is literally threatened with obliteration by modern-day barbarism, recalling the brutality of Genghis Khan.
The light of knowledge cannot be extinguished, and the legacy of a civilization built over thousands of years will endure far beyond acts of violence.
Buildings will be rebuilt, scientists will continue to grow, and life will return to its normal course; however, what remains intact throughout history is IRAN itself; its identity, its civilization, and its enduring presence.
